‘THE Universal: Te Tai Ao’ exhibition 23 June – 7 July 2022 is a dynamic
development from ‘Symbolica’ at Toi Tū Studio One in March 2020, which went into lockdown after the first week and did not reemerge. Covid-19 has changed all of our lives and perspectives, and in this new 9-artist show, the established are mentoring the up-and-coming, under the umbrella of The Flowers Art Collective. The theme is driven by a shared curiosity in symbolic visual language. From the intimacy of the private to the totality of the public, it investigates the way in which artists navigate the minutiae of life within this dominant ideology of our time, arriving at both disparities and similarities in a unique dialogue. In The Mercury Plaza show each artist puts their ‘best artwork forward’ as forerunner to a larger show at Uxbridge Arts Centre in February 2023.
